This thesis aims to assess to what extent electric mobility, and in particular the mass adoption of electric vehicles, is a truly effective strategy for the ecological transition of cities. The assessment takes into account three main rebound effects linked to their deployment: the increase in distances travelled, the modal shift from public transport to the electric car, and residential relocation to peri-urban areas. The approach integrates both environmental impacts and behavioural effects, which are often overlooked in studies on electric vehicles.
The environmental performance of mobility systems is linked to energy consumption, emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases and the effects of disruption and fragmentation of natural habitats due to the construction
